Mary Moir

Obituary of Mary Moir

After a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer, our beloved angel, Mary Georgetta Moir (nee Driscoll) was called by our Lord to join her mother Louise; father Lorne; and younger brother Lorne Jr. in the kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, February 11, 2007. Mary leaves to celebrate her life, her loving husband of forty-one years Bill; daughters, Tara (Rob) Dyck and Allison (Jason) Starzynski; grandchildren, Valerie, Byron and Jenna-Leigh Dyck, and Jordan Starzynski; brothers, Mike (Paulette), John and Paul; sisters, Florence (Jim) Scott, Elizabeth (Denis) Fodor, Ellen (Mike) Read, Cathy (Rob) Spicer; in-laws, Cheryl Driscoll, plus Eleanor, Jim and Linda, Rob and Carol Moir, Laura and Bram Robinovitch; plus twenty-nine adoring nephews and nieces. Born and raised in Summerside, PEI, Mary gladly accompanied her Air Force husband across the country, making many friends at each posting. During their travels, Mary completed Diplomas in Interior Decoration plus Legal Secretary and Life Insurance Administration. In 1984 Mary and her family settled in Calgary, after which time Mary pursued many other interests and achievements, including her Real Estate License, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (major in painting and minor in Art History), and her Mortgage Agent’s License. Mary loved to paint in all mediums and constantly sought to improve her style and technique by taking lessons from other established artists. As a modest, pleasant and befriending person, Mary excelled at all that she did, especially as a loving and supportive wife, protective mom, proud grandmother, sincere friend, and Real Estate/Mortgage Agent who did her utmost to serve and satisfy clients. Throughout her sickness, Mary remained positive, cheerful, faithful and optimistic, exhibiting an inner strength that served as an example to everyone. We miss you Mary and will love and remember you always. Words cannot adequately express our thanks and appreciation to the many people involved in Mary’s medical treatment and care over the past three years, including Dr’s. Paterson, Craighead, Lau, and their dedicated staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre; Dr’s. Graham, Beveridge, Taylor and Preller for their special interest and support for Mary; RN Tracy, Dr. McMeekan and staff of the Cardiac Function Clinic; staff in the Anticoagulation Clinic, Calgary Lab Service, Diagnostic services, EMS and Palliative Home Care; and all staff, including Medical, Nursing, Housekeeping and Dietary staff at the Foothills Medical Centre Units 81, 82, 103C and in particular the ER and Unit 32. As well a heartfelt thank you to the many friends of Mary, especially Penny Carey and Rosemary Burns, who provided encouragement, assistance and companionship. You all gave unlimited compassion, understanding and support to Mary for which her family is truly grateful. God bless you all.
