Obituary of David James Bates

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David (Dave) J. Bates, beloved husband of Donna Bates, in his home on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the age of 72 years. Dave was born in Dauphin, MB on September 14, 1934. He was educated in Dauphin and Winnipeg. He began his career in Dauphin at CKDM radio station. Dave began working in television in Moose Jaw, SK in 1961. He was married to his loving wife Donna in 1962. Together, David and Donna moved to Calgary in 1964, where Dave began working at CFAC television in sales and later became Vice-President and General Manager until his retirement in 1994. Dave loved sales, becoming a master salesman, he was reportedly able to sell ice cubes to Alaskans. He was recognized for his contributions to the Calgary community by the B’nai B’rith, the Calgary Stampede, the Motion Picture Pioneers and others. Dave was an avid skier, golfer, card player and movie goer. He will be greatly missed. Along with his loving wife of forty-four years Donna, David will be forever remembered by his five sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen, Douglas and Shelley, Jeff and Jungsil, Michael and Jonathan; and by his grandchildren, Rachael, Kailan and Olivia. He is also survived by his brother William; and by his sisters, Muriel and Helen. Dave was predeceased by his parents and by his sisters, Nora and Betty.
