Obituary of Harry Friesen

Harry (Henry) Friesen passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb 10th, 2007 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Harry will be sorely missed by his beloved wife Mary, and his five children Larry (Valerie), Betty-Anne (Lambert), Cindy (Steve), Ken (Nancy) and Harvey. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of his grand children, Jamie-Lyn, Michael (Kim), Jody, Kenny and Katie and great grand-daughter Mckenzie. He will also be missed by his brothers Dave (Nellie) and Ed (Helen), and his sisters Helen (Ben), Sue (Pete), Martha (Sid) and Mary. Harry will always be remembered for his zest for life and ability to make people laugh. Born in Altona, Manitoba, Harry subsequently moved to Winnipeg where he was employed by the T. Eaton Co. then as a long distance driver for Reimer Express. His passion for building and woodworking eventually led him to form his own construction company which he successfully operated for more than a decade. In 1984, Harry and Mary moved to Alberta where they owned and operated a restaurant in Okotoks. Shortly after retiring, Harry was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was cared for at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary where he lived his remaining years. The family would like to pay tribute not only to his caring wife Mary, but also to the many friends and staff at the Bethany who provided support and companionship.
