Nick Chibry

Obituary of Nick Chibry

Nick Chibry passed away peacefully, after a short stay in hospital, on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Born in Calgary, AB on May 30, 1924, Nick enjoyed a full and busy life. Growing up in cow-town, he spent many afternoons mucking out cattle liners (and skipping school) to earn extra money for the family. In 1943 Nick married his wife Pearle and enlisted in the Army at the young age of nineteen years where he served his country overseas until the end of WWII. He returned to civilian life and continued his thirty-two year career with the C.N.R. until his retirement. Needing to keep busy, he opened Turks Bottle Depot which he owned and operated for several years. Nick was an active member (and part-time employee) of the Royal Canadian Legion Ogden Branch No. 154 for forty-two years. He prided himself on his well-maintained yard and manicured lawn and probably had the cleanest sidewalks in the city in the winter. Nick is survived by five children, daughter Dianne (Dale) Wilson of Carstairs, sons, Doug (Pat) Chibry and Dave (Brenda) Chibry of Calgary, daughter Doreen Thurston of Red Deer, and son Dean (Lori) Chibry of Okotoks. Nick is also survived by his brother Fred Chibry of Calgary as well as eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents William and Pearl; brother Metro; sisters, Mary and Francis; grandsons, Perry and Kent; his loving wife of fifty-six years Pearle, whom he missed dearly after her passing in 1999; and his daughter Donnalee. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, February 12, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for the care and kindness shown by the staff at the Colonel Belcher D.A.L.
