Obituary of Dorothy Worrall Deamer

Dorothy Deamer, beloved member of the Olds and Calgary communities, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in the Red Deer Hospital. Dorothy was born in Wolverhampton, England, schooled in Hemel Hempstead, and following the death of her father at Tobruk, spent her early years helping to support her family of five younger siblings. From the age of fourteen, she worked as a seamstress, moving into essential services during World War II when she was charge hand in a sawmill while still a teenager. Following the war, she returned to the garment industry, supervising a small tailoring plant and later, following marriage to the late Clifford Maurice Deamer, she worked as a Time Study Engineer (the first female in that role) with the Nestlés company in Hayes, Middlesex. Dorothy immigrated to Canada in the early seventies residing in Calgary until the 1980’s when she and her husband retired to Olds. During her years in Calgary, she was a Charter Member of the Canadian Legion, joining Branch 285 in 1975 and serving as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary from 1976 until 1978. She initiated and conducted various veterans programs for the Rockyview and Colonel Belcher Hospitals with great success. She was honoured with a Life Membership in the Legion in 1992. Dorothy is survived by her sisters Marie and Margaret; her brothers Eric and John; nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews- all of whom will dearly miss her stalwart presence and unfailing support. Her wide circle of friends and relatives in Canada, Great Britain and New Zealand join in expressing their loss. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.(Please note time change). with the Rev.Bogdan Sianozecki SDS, Presider.
