Obituary of Hazel May Durand
Hazel May Durand beloved wife of Dan Durand of Calgary passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the age of 78 years.
Hazel was born on September 26, 1928 in Drumheller, AB. She was raised on the family farm in Delia, AB. Hazel completed her education at Crescent Heights School in Calgary. Following this, she attended the Holy Cross Hospital’s school of nursing, graduating in 1950. She was married to the love of her life Dan Durand on November 11, 1950. Hazel continued on with her nursing career and began to sell Beauty Counsellor. As a creative entrepreneur she started and successfully ran a Flower Shop and Floral Design School. In 1979 Hazel along with her partner Dan started Durand’s Diamonds and Jewels Ltd which has become Durand’s Ltd. Editions and is still operated by the Durand family. Hazel was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly.
Along with her loving husband of fifty-six years, Dan, Hazel will be forever remembered for her love and generosity by her children and their spouses, Rev. Monty and Susan Durand, Sheila and Hugh Tackaberry, Margo Hargreaves, and Carla and Keith Drader; seven grandchildren and by her two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Audrey Kennedy and Enid Pettifer. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Hazel and Simon Elliott; sister, Dorothy Glasgo and by her brother, James Elliott.
Viewing and Visitation will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at the Delia, AB Cemetery. A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held at the Chapel of the Bells on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Hazel Durand, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by the Chapel of the Bells.
