Obituary of Marion Joyce Laird

Marion Joyce Laird, our beloved mother, of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Marion was born on July 1, 1924 in St. Catherine’s, ON. She married Colin Laird in Ontario and moved to Edmonton, AB in 1955. In 1963 they moved to Fort McMurray and started Laird Electric and Supplies. She continued to operate the company after Colin’s death in 1968 up until her retirement. Marion moved to Calgary in 1995 to be closer to her family. Since moving to Calgary, Marion volunteered for over 6000 hours at the Rockyview General Hospital, primarily in the gift shop. She was an avid reader, loved to knit, crochet and bake, as well as spend time with her family. Marion will be profoundly missed by her family, Marilyn and Michael Owens, of Cochrane, AB, Joan Holloway, of Spruce Grove, AB, Jerrold and Sandra Laird, of Regina, SK and Douglas Laird, of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Terri-Ann, Tanis, Colin, Tom, Catherine, Patrick, Tegan, Taya, Koen, and Christopher. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Keithe Laird and Eileen Tees as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Marion was predeceased by her husband Colin, two sons David and Bruce, daughter Melissa, sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Harry Sexton and her brother Roswell Tees. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Glasgow, Presider.
