Obituary of Harry Simmonds
Harry, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the age of 92 years.
Harry was born in Pollockville, Alberta in the Kneehill Valley. He started his first barber shop in the show room of Beiseker Motors. After seventeen years of operating his barber shop and billiard hall he moved to Calgary in 1963. Harry operated a barber shop on 8th Ave. and taught barbering for many years. He was active at both the Fairview Lanes and Bow Valley Lawn Bowling Clubs. Harry was very proud of his fifty year membership at Royal Canadian Legion #264.
Harry is survived by his two daughters, Linda Simmonds, Arlene Rickard and son-in-law Alan Rickard; grandchildren, Lonny Simmonds, Lindsay (Chris) Rickard-Merten and Lance Rickard; sisters-in-law, Norma Schwartzenberger, Marion Parker, Eileen (Ernie) Little as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Mary in 1983, his wife of forty years; Gladys, his second wife of eleven years in 1997; his parents, Alice and Charles; brother Garnet and his four sisters, Ruby Bauer-Meyer, Hazel Newcom, Charlotte Goerlitz and Connie Becthold.
Funeral Services will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion #264 (1910 Kensington Rd N.W.) on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. A Family Graveside Service was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
