Stephen Hansen

Obituary of Stephen Emmanuel Hansen

Our beloved Stephen passed away peacefully on January 25, 2007 at the age of 26. Stephen was born in Calgary on December 25, 1980. He was a wry, witty, and hardworking man who enjoyed good food, music, and hiking in the mountains. Open and non-judgemental, Stephen had an easy way with people from many walks of life. A carpenter by trade, Stephen was proud to continue the traditions of his capable farming grandfathers. He was highly imaginative and artistic, and he created beautiful paintings and carvings. His deep appreciation for music was infectious, whether his stereo was playing ACDC’s “Thunderstruck” or Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem”. Stephen was at home scrambling in the Rockies, and was an exceptionally practical and competent backpacker. A responsible leader in outdoor activities, Stephen received the Queen Scout Award as a teenager in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Scouts Canada. Stephen knew advanced first aid and used this knowledge to save lives more than once. Stephen’s walk revealed his sense of purpose and determination. His sense of humour was legendary and contagious, and we will smile in remembering him as a “fun-gi.” Stephen is survived by parents Joyce Hagedorn, and Donald and Mardelle Hansen; grandmother Jeannette Hansen; and siblings Robin, Joël, and Theodore. A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held on Friday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Crescent Heights Community Hall, 1101 – 2nd St. N.W. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
