Obituary of John Allen O’Neil

John, beloved husband of Agnes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. John was born in Argyle, Carleton County, NB on October 11, 1941. He graduated from Florenceville High School in 1959. Following high school he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. John attended Teacher’s College and taught in Millville, NB for two years. He became an instructor for adult basic education (upgrading). He also worked for the Federal Government as a Fishery Officer in 1976 until 1985 when he moved to Saint John, NB and was employed as a Human Service Counsellor working with handicapped and mentally challenged young people. In 1996 he moved to Calgary and worked as a Personal Care Attendant. During John’s lifetime he volunteered with many organizations including the United Way, Boy Scouts and singing at Sunday afternoon services at Bow View Manor. His love of life and people will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife of forty-three years Agnes (Leech), John is survived by his son James; sisters Verna (Eugene) and Patricia, of Oshawa, ON, Betty (Mahlon), of Upper Kent, NB; brother-in-law George (Ann) Leech; and sister-in-law Marie Page of Woodstock, NB; as well as several loving nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert, Gerald and Tommy. Funeral Services will be held at Foothills United Church (3803 – 69th Street N.W.) on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
