Norah Beaton

Obituary of Norah Evelyn Beaton

Sadly, after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s, Norah passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on January 23, 2007, at the age of 84 years. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sherry (Rob); son Boyd; beloved granddaughters Heidi and Jami; as well as nieces, a nephew and their families. Norah was predeceased by her infant son Douglas James; her husband Douglas Robinson; her sister Muriel; and her brother Roland. Norah was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario, and after graduating from secretarial school, moved to Winnipeg and later married the love of her life, Doug. After being suddenly widowed in 1960, Norah, with remarkable fortitude, began working for the V.O.N., for fourteen years, and later Dictaphone, for fifteen years, all the while devoting herself to her children, often being the mentor and surrogate mother to their many friends. Shortly after retiring, “Gams” made her home in Calgary and for the last year and a half was loved and cared for at the Beverly Centre Glenmore where she captured the hearts of all the wonderful staff there (a special thank you to Mayen). Norah will always be remembered as an astute, well spoken, loving, and compassionate lady with a wonderful sense of humour and undying love for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway’s Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, January 29, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, #201, 222 – 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3 Telephone: (403) 290-0110.
