Obituary of Edward Bain

Edward (Ted) Bain, beloved husband of fifty-seven years and best friend of Marie Bain of Calgary, passed away in the presence of his family, on Saturday January 20, 2007, at the age of 79 years. Ted was born on July 15, 1927 in Kitchener, ON. Although underage, Ted proudly served four years in the Canadian Merchant Navy during WWII, sailing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean convoy routes. Ted joined the Canadian Army in 1954 (R.C.E.M.E.) and served in London, Hagersville, West Germany, Petawawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa and Calgary, where he retired in 1976. The next ten years saw Ted serving with the RCMP followed by the Calgary City Police until he retired once more in 1986. Retirement was spent golfing, curling and most importantly, taking frequent trips to visit the grandchildren. Although failing health slowed him down, Ted continued to volunteer and help out his favourite charities. His ready smile and sense of humour won Ted many friends and he was always willing to give others a hand. Ted was a member of the Corvette Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, Kensington Branch #264 and an Honorary Life member of the Calgary Garrison Curling Club. Besides his loving wife Marie, Ted is survived by his family, Ted Jr. and Holly and their family, Cheryl, Crystal and Cindy, of Cochrane, John and Johanna and their family, Tammy, John and Michael, of Cranbrook, BC, and George and Laura and their family, Geordie and Billie Lee, of Parker, Colorado. Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday January 26, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. It is Ted’s desire that his ashes be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean at a later date.
