Obituary of Nelly VALSTAR

February 27, 1928 – Rotterdam, Holland July 20, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nelly Valstar on Saturday, July 20, 2018 at the age of 91. Nelly Valstar was born on February 27, 1928 in Rotterdam, Holland, the eldest of three siblings. She married David Valstar on October 3, 1952 and a year later, immigrated to Canada and settled in Red Deer, Alberta where they lived for seventeen years before moving to Calgary. Nelly worked much of those first years at the Provincial Training Centre in Red Deer, the Red Deer Nursing Home and the West Park Nursing Home. Later in Calgary, she worked at Baker Sanitorium and Reitman’s. Nelly loved her family and always enjoyed their visits and spending time with them. Nelly is survived by her three children, MaryAnne Vandervalk (James), Anita McKellar (Don) and Earl Valstar (Maisoon); five grandchildren, Carrie (Steve), Mark (Amber), Erin (Travis), Ryan (Elisa), and Kristen (Brett); eleven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Piet and Nely Jansen in Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nelly was predeceased by her husband David; her parents Franz and Maria Jansen; her sister and brother-in- law Miep and Henk Kamp; and son-in-law Nick Oostlander; as well as numerous in-laws both in Canada and Holland. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. A Private Family Graveside will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
