Obituary of Gerrit Christiaan Spierenburg

Gerrit (Gerry) Christiaan Spierenburg beloved husband of Henny of Calgary, passed away at home on Saturday evening, January 13, 2007 after a long battle with Mesothelioma (asbestos related) cancer at the age of 71 years. Gerry was born on March 31, 1935 in Rotterdam, Holland and immigrated to Canada at the age of twenty-six. Proud to be a Canadian, Gerry resided the rest of his life in the mountains and hills of Alberta where he enjoyed his passions of camping, hiking, traveling and sports. Gerry also enjoyed his job working in the oil and gas industry which allowed him to see many other parts of the world. Besides his loving wife of fifty years Henny, Gerry is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Lucille, Ron and Suzanne, and Jerry and Michelle; six grandchildren, Gerrit, Andrea, Cody, Clinton, Kai and Kalen; as well as numerous other extended family members, loyal and close friends in both Canada and the Netherlands. A Celebration of Gerry’s LOVE of Life will be held at the Dutch Canadian Club (300 – 7930 Bowness Road N.W.) on Saturday, January 20, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
