Obituary of Martin Michael Kowalski

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Marty Kowalski at his home on January 8, 2007 at the age of 71. After a valiant battle with a lengthy illness he is now at rest with his parents Joseph and Mary Kowalski, mother in-law Hilda Shiek and brothers in-law Conrad Sather and Vic Dancy. He is survived by his beloved wife Alice and children Peggy Shiek, Sherry (Gerard) Etifier, Allan (Charlinda) Kowalski, his precious grandchildren Scott (Dana), Ashley and AJ. He will be greatly missed by his sister Sylvia (Ken) Morrison, brother Myron (Darlene) Kowalski, the extended Lazorko, Hicks and Sather families, special friends Chris and Tina Yarborough, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Marty was born June 18, 1935 in Bankend, Saskatchewan. He was dedicated to the military where he served 25 years traveling to places such as Alert, Cyprus, Germany, Golan Heights, Ontario, Saskatchewan and finally Alberta. After retiring from the military he spent 15 years at his second career for S.A.I.T where he became a lifetime member of the A.U.P.E. For many years Marty played the role of Santa for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. He was an avid curler and took great pride in his gardening skills and gaming abilities at the casinos. As of late his favourite pastimes were playing cards with the seniors and the challenge of the Sudoku game. Marty will be remembered for his spirited personality, generous manner and perpetual sense of humour. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 275 (755, 40 Street SE) on Sunday January 14, 2007 at 1:00 PM.
