Obituary of Stuart Barlow Hons
Stuart Hons, beloved husband of Edna M. Hons of Calgary, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age of 90 years.
Stuart was born on May 13, 1916 in Brantford, ON. He graduated from Long Branch High School and Shaw Business School. Stuart lived in Toronto, ON. from 1916 to 1941, Cartagena, Colombia from 1941 to 1954, Lima and Talara, Peru from 1954 to 1969, Coral Gables, Florida from 1969 1973, Brega, Libya from 1973 to 1976, back to Coral Gables, Florida from 1976 to 1981, Sarasota, Florida from 1981 to 2004 and then to Calgary from 2004 to 2007. He married Edna on October 20, 1939. Stu was an Oil Field Accountant with Andean National Corporation, International Petroleum Corporation and Exxon. He was a member of the United Church. Stu loved to travel and his favourite holiday was when he and his family toured Continental Europe. He was an avid golfer and his greatest weakness was Cuban cigars and martinis. His greatest challenge was relocating his family to Colombia during WWII.
Besides his loving wife Edna, Stuart is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Shirley of Calgary and Dennis and Edith of Fergus, ON; his grandchildren, Erik (Sarah), Bryan, Ian (Kristy), Michael (Tawnya), Kevin (Michelle), Allan and Jordan; a great-granddaughter Isabel; as well as his sister Jean Duguesnay. Stu was predeceased by his brother Charles Hons.
A private family celebration of Stuart’s life will be held in the summer of 2007 at Sand Lake in Kearney, ON. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
