Obituary of Betty Garbutt

Betty passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness on Sunday, January 7, 2007. She was predeceased by her loving husband George on December 13, 2006. She was born September 17, 1924 in Winnipeg, MB, the second of three children of Violet Allan. Betty briefly attended UBC before training and working as a radiologist in Edmonton, AB, where she met and married George Garbutt for the first time. They settled in Calgary where they had three sons and Betty became involved in the Home and School Association becoming the Alberta President. She worked as a program Coordinator for the Calgary Public School Board Continuing Education Department for many years and was awarded the Woman of the Year Award in Education in 1981. She and George remarried after a ten year hiatus, retired in 1983 and lived in Enderby, BC and Redwood Meadows before returning to Calgary. Betty and George traveled extensively and introduced their grandchildren to London, Paris and Puerto Vallarta. Betty will be sorely missed by her sons Allan (Bev), Rick (Jacky) and Tracy; as well as her granddaughters Kendra and Mara.
