Obituary of Stewart Alexander McLaren
Stewart Alexander McLaren, beloved husband of Vera, of Cochrane passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the age of 90 years. He was dearly beloved by his brother Donald and his sisters Anna and Margaret throughout their life times.
Stewart in his boyhood days had come from Ontario with his family who settled in the Madden and Dog Pound districts. Stewart slowly and carefully built up his farmstead from the original quarter section with caring hands as he tended the livestock and reaped the harvests. Continually, with the same willing hands, he repaired the buildings, the fences and the machinery. On clear warm harvest nights, Vera loved to be riding with him on whatever machine he was using and make the rounds back and forth across the fields. In 1965 Stewart and Vera were married which relieved him of his cooking and cleaning chores and introduced him to holidays in Las Vegas, where you win some and lose some more. They continued in this way for many years with deep affection for each other and latterly savouring the weekly visits paid to them by Stewart’s sister and brother-in-law who had retired to a lodge. During those times they all shared in the many cups of tea and the special buns that were everyone’s favourites.
Left to mourn the loss of this truly great and wonderful man, are his wife and helpmate, Vera; and his devoted nieces Donalda, Rheta, Marilyn and Deanna who loved him too. They will all cherish the memory of Stewart, husband and uncle who meant so much to them.
