Battista Barberio

Obituary of Battista Barberio

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father Battista Barberio (Nonno Batti), of Calgary, surrounded by his children, following a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the age of 74 years. Battista was born on December 1, 1932 in San Giovanni In Fiore. He immigrated to Calgary with his wife Maria in 1959 in search of opportunity and prosperity for themselves, their children and future grandchildren. He soon mastered the art of bricklaying and thus started his own company, “Barberio Masonary”. Nonno Batti appreciated the simple things in life, like a good meal, glass of homemade wine, both savoured in the company of family and friends. A lovable character with a smile for everyone, he enjoyed visiting various stores in the city, leaving an impact on everyone he met. Battista is survived by three respectful sons and two daughters-in-law, Gino and Gail Barberio, Dominic and Antonella Barbario and Bruno Barberio; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Gemma and Robert Festa; seven adoring grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Joel, Ryan, Amanda, Dominique and Niko. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Bryan Frank, Presider. The family wishes to express their gratitude to family, friends and health care workers who provided exceptional care and kindness during this difficult time.
