Obituary of George Ray

George L. Ray, beloved husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Ray of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 28, 2006, at the age of 83 years. Born in Glasston, North Dakota, George served his country faithfully during WWII, as a flight navigator in the USN, Lt. JG, before moving his family to Canada in 1958 to work in the “oil patch”. Known for his integrity in the industry, George designed and calculated the instrumentation for many of the gas plants now existing in southern Alberta while working for Barber Engineering and Supply Ltd. George was well known for his zest for life and enjoyed a life-long passion for flying, golf, skiing, race cars, dirt bikes and hunting. He would often play a round of golf, go flying and then pick-up his grandson Lee to set out for a late afternoon fishing trip to finish off the day. There just never seemed to be enough hours in the day for all that George loved to do. In his later years he enjoyed his many trips to Phoenix and Ireland with his wife Elizabeth. George leaves a very large hole in the lives of his devoted second wife Elizabeth; his daughter Georgia Martin (Bill); his grandson Lee Martin (Voula); and his great-granddaughter Helen. Also left to mourn the loss of his friendship are Elizabeth’s family Mary Ann Fowler (Jim) and their children Sarah (Steve) and J.P.; and Tim Crough (Janice) and their children Gini and Josh. Also grieving his loss are his sister Elizabeth Ratterman (John); sister-in-law Marilyn Ray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-five years, Helene in 1991; and his brothers Robert in 1991 and Wallace in 2002. A Memorial Service will be held in honour of George’s life, in the chapel at the Bethany Care Centre, 916 – 18A Street S.W., Calgary, on Saturday January 6, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through mcinnisandholloway.com.
