Obituary of Arthur Martin Downie

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden passing of Arthur Martin Downie on Thursday, December 28, 2006. Art was born on September 15, 1933 in Calgary, AB as the eldest child of Delores and John Downie, and is survived by his younger brother Harvey (Gloria). Art will always be remembered for his devotion to Bea, who was his love at first sight when they met in Perryvale, AB. Together they raised four children, Laura (Joe), Debbie (Rob), Greg (Jan), and Hilary (Eric). His cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of his life and will fondly remember their Papa. Art worked for AGT and pioneered their computer program. He was often called to help other computer installations in the USA and Canada. In 1970 he moved his family to Sorrento, B.C. and established an antique business, which he operated for 33 years. His dry sense of humour and wit has endeared him to everyone he has met. The family owes special thanks to the nurses and staff of the palliative care stroke and heart trauma unit at Foothills Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of Art’s life will be held at the OAPO Centre in Sorrento, B.C. on Sunday, January 14, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society – BC and Yukon Division, Attention: Stephanie Agg, CFRE, 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4J4 Telephone: 1-888-700-1131, www.bc.cancer.ca.
