Obituary of Marilyn Ruth JONES

September 3, 1939 – Calgary, Alberta December 12, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Marilyn beloved wife of the late Keith Jones of Calgary, AB, passed away on December 12, 2017 at the age of 78 years. After being born in Calgary, Marilyn moved around Canada as her father, Ron Steeves’ career as a Parks Canada Superintendent saw the family living in, among other places, Ottawa, Field, and Banff. Marilyn eventually settled in Calgary where she met and fell in love with Keith while they both worked at Canada Packers Meats. They built a home in Calgary’s South East and started their family. When her three children were all old enough to be in school full time, Marilyn began her journey in the world of Real Estate. That journey, which she was still very much on when she passed, saw her achieve many accomplishments including being elected President of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 2005, being a TWH Saunders Realtor of the Year recipient in 1998, and a multi-time recipient of numerous Century 21 Real Estate awards. Known as The Energizer Bunny, Marilyn was a devoted volunteer for numerous organizations in Calgary, including The Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, The Mustard Seed, and Meals on Wheels Calgary. In fact, Marilyn had the most volunteer hours of anyone associated with the Calgary Real Estate Board. Recently, Marilyn was to be the incoming president of the FLC Seniors organization, a group of like-minded seniors with which she was heavily involved. Anyone who knew Marilyn would know that this barely scratches the surface of her volunteer work. An avid traveller, Marilyn spent a great deal of time in recent years exploring the world. She made numerous trips to Africa over the years, including her most recent adventure to Uganda and Rwanda in October, to see chimpanzees and gorillas in their natural habitat. Probably Marilyn’s greatest pride, a close second behind her family, was her involvement with Christ Moravian Church, her long time spiritual home. Marilyn is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law Lorelei and Gelvin Haynes, Carolyn and John Pritchard, and by her son, Duane Jones, all of Calgary; two grandchildren, Cassandra Haynes and Wyatt Pritchard; brother-in-law Ed Skeet; her three nieces Karen, Linda, Connie, and their families; her close friend Ted Edwards and his family; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws as well as many friends. Marilyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Keith; sister, Bev Skeet; and her parents Kathleen and Ron Steeves. A celebration of life will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall.
