Obituary of Dilys Burns

Nora Burns (nee Davies) passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary after a long illness on Monday December 18, 2006, a few days shy of her 87th birthday. Raised on the family farm outside of Llandrindod Wells, Wales, Nora never ceased to be amazed that her later life would give her the opportunity to visit many of the places she read about and dreamed about as a young girl. Nora displayed an exceptional strength of character that allowed her to accept and overcome any hardship with great dignity, thinking always of others before thinking of herself. Nora spent most of her working life in Montreal, ably managing an investment office before moving to Calgary to be close to her daughter after retirement. She took great joy in seeing her grandchildren grow from childhood into young adults. Her door was always open to friend and family alike, for conversation, advice, a sympathetic ear or a helpful hand. Her days were filled with long walks from her home with her dogs, meeting her many friends along the way. She spent many fulfilling hours tending her garden, and the many flowering plants inside her home. The shortest days of winter would find her travelling, to visit her son and his family in Hong Kong. Nora is remebered by her son, Andrew (Eiko), daughter Sheila Fee (Nelson); grandchildren Jason, Kevin, Heather and Sara; and her sisters Enid Ridpath and Megan Cheeseman. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
