Louise Goldsmith

Obituary of Louise Goldsmith

Louise, our beautiful, brave Honey, Mom, Grandma and Friend passed away on December 21st, 2006, four days before her 77th birthday. Louise was a proud 2nd generation Calgarian who exemplified the true spirit of generosity by consistently putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She was born on Christmas Day, 1929. Louise was a graduate of Western Canada High School. Louise and Ray began their life together on September 11, 1948. Music brought her great joy as she sang and played the piano, organ and accordion. Whenever a community function needed a leader Louise was there. Church elder, youth group leader, choirs, school council executives or teaching English, Louise was always giving her time and energy toward supporting her family and toward a multitude of volunteer causes. Earlier summers were spent camping, boating and waterskiing on the lakes in Alberta and B.C. She had adventures in New Zealand, California and fifth-wheeling across Canada. Collecting, identifying and restoring antiques was her specialty. Sewing and baking cookies, muffins and treats for family and friends were two of her many gifts. Louise’s door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. Our lives are filled with enriched, treasured memories all due to her diligent care, nurturing and commitment. Louise is so very lovingly survived by her husband of fifty-eight years Ray; caring son Don, Liz and family in New Zealand; and devoted daughter Gail, favourite son-in-law Jim and cherished grandson Mathew in Calgary. Louise will be fondly remembered by her dear friends, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Iris and Stewart Sluth and her siblings Jim, Betty, and Gordon. A warm thank you to Dr. Celis and the staff of Intercare Millrise for all of your T.L.C. You know how very much we appreciated everyone as Louise cheerfully accepted the challenges life presented her. Honouring Louise’s request, no formal funeral will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. With a magical twinkle in her eye and a smile that touches your heart, in lieu of contributions, Louise’s wish is for all of us to care for our precious families in an “extra-special” way this holiday season and for eternity. Dearest Louise we love you so very much and miss you so very deeply. Your loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all of us “forever, and ever, and always!” In living memory of Louise Goldsmith, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E.
