Obituary of Mary Evelyn Smith

Mary Smith, beloved wife of Herbert Smith, passed away at the Chinook Hospice on Tuesday December 19, 2006, at the age of 85 years. Mary was born in Toronto, ON, on June 27, 1921. She grew up in Toronto and married Herb in 1938. While Herb served in the army overseas, Mary lived, worked and raised their three boys in Toronto. After the war, the family moved to Rexdale, ON in 1948 and then to Cambridge in 1958. In 2005 they moved to Calgary to be closer to their extended family. Mary worked hard for most of her life in factories, housecleaning and babysitting. When Herb retired in 1984, she retired and they traveled across North America. She will be fondly missed by those who knew her. Mary is also survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law Norman and Don and Nancy; three grandchildren Helen, Barbara and David; eight great grandchildren; her sisters Bobbi Thompson and Madeline Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her son Herbert E. in 1971. Funeral Services will be held at Ogden United Church (7401 – 23rd Street S.E.) on Thursday December 21, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. with the Susan Wilkinson-Matticks L.M., Presider.
