Obituary of Stephen Maurice Gibson

Stephen Maurice (Steve) Gibson beloved husband of Judy Gibson of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the age of 51 years. Steve was born on August 25, 1955 to James and Lillian Gibson in Tyler, Texas, where he lived to the age of five. His family then moved to southern Ontario and in 1965 to Calgary. He attended Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School and SAIT, where he received his diploma in Petroleum Resource Engineering in 1979. He started his working career as a roughneck moving his way up to his most recent position as an Officer and Vice President of Operations for Innova Exploration Ltd, which he joined as the company’s third employee. Steve married his wife Judy (nee Boyda) on April 7, 1984 and together they had two wonderful daughters, Jessica and Stacy. Steve was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to ski and every winter weekend for the past thirty years you could find Steve skiing at Lake Louise. He was a member of the Lake Louise Ski Club for fifteen years, serving as a board member for five of those years. He also loved scuba diving, boating and the sun. He often spent his summer weekends and holidays with his family at Gleniffer Lake, their “home away from home.” He will always be remembered as having a big heart and the spirit soul of a child, he was often referred to as a “big kid.” Steve was a loving and caring husband and father and will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Besides his loving wife of twenty-two years, Steve is survived by his two daughters, Jessica and Stacy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kevin and Ineke Gibson of Okotoks and Gordon Gibson of Calgary. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as by his two cats. Steve was predeceased by his father James and by his mother Lillian. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone attending the service is more than welcome to come dressed in jeans.
