Obituary of George Pershing Lalonde

George Pershing Lalonde, beloved husband of Elaine Lalonde of Calgary passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the age of 68 years. George was born on May 12, 1938 in Montreal, QC. He attained his Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and became a Chartered Accountant. George moved to Calgary in 1969 where he was employed in his field with Texaco Canada for twenty-one years. George moved to Imperial Oil during the Imperial Oil and Texaco Canada merger and retired from Imperial Oil in 1992. Following this he served in public practice for sixteen years. He was also a long-standing member of the Petroleum Club. George’s biggest passion was family and in his eyes the grandchildren could do no wrong. He also loved golf and Sunday football. He will be remembered as a man who was always happy, generous, kind, fun-loving, organized, and responsible – someone you looked up to. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed life to its fullest. Everyone who knew him respected him deeply. George showed a lot of courage in the face of adversity, especially in dealing with his health issues. He refused to allow them to dominate his life. Besides his loving wife Elaine, George is survived by three children, Sherry and her husband Mark Leslie, George, and John and his wife Velinda as well as two step-children, Nancy and her husband Neil Grinwis and Derek and his wife Jacqueline Lutz. Papa will always be remembered by his grandchildren, Cassie, Nessa, Tyler, Justin, Alyssa, Mike, Conner, Kirstin, Bram, Holly, JJ, Ben and one great-grandchild, Aidan. He is also survived by two sisters, Debbie (Don) and Marilyn (Joe); and a brother Jim. George was predeceased by his first wife Ann in 1990; his parents Hazel and George Lalonde; and infant brother John. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Linda C. Hunter of Wild Rose United Church, Presider. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
