Obituary of Alice Esther Blain
Alice “Esther” Blain, our beautiful doll, and the beloved wife of James Blain, left us on Thursday, December 14, 2006.
Esther was born in Toronto, ON., on August 26, 1920. She met Jim in Toronto at the end of the war and married him there on November 14, 1945. Esther moved to Calgary where Jim resided right after the wedding to start their new life together.
Esther enjoyed being active and worked for the Hudson Bay in the groceteria as a Personal Shopper until 1964. Esther was a founding and active member of the Renfrew 50+ Club. She was also a member of the Renfrew United Church Ladies Bowling League. Esther was enthusiastic about everything she did, from volunteer work to family. She loved music and loved to sing, although she was the first to acknowledge that she couldn’t carry a tune! Esther loved her holiday time camping in BC, and just plain loved being out of doors! She was a proud Calgarian, even though she came from Toronto, cheering for her Flames and Stampeders! Esther will be remembered for her warm and genuine smile, and there was always a warm welcome when visiting her at home with the first response, “let’s have a cup of tea!” Family and friends always came first in Esther’s life. She was always the one that was there first to help out and make sure everyone else was okay. She loved being a mom and she was a proud grandmother, totally devoted to her granddaughters!
Esther is survived, and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Sandra Blain, her son, Dale Blain, and her three granddaughters, Megan, Victoria, and Dianna, all of Calgary. She will also be remembered by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sandra Blain, of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Esther was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Gordon, both of Toronto.
Sweetheart, Mom, Grannie, we love you very much and miss you deeply.
