Dorothy Herzog passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Born on November 29, 1917, Dorothy was the youngest of five daughters born to Albert James and Mary Stirling (nee Simpson) Willis, the first pioneer homesteaders of Loon Lake, Saskatchewan. Dorothy moved from Loon Lake to Winnipeg in 1939, where she became reacquainted with her husband, Johnny, whom she had previously met as a young girl. Dorothy and her Johnny were married May 25, 1943. During the war years, Dorothy worked in Ottawa in the Department of National Defense. After Johnny’s return from the front in World War II, they resettled in Winnipeg, where she maintained a beautiful home on Greene Avenue for 54 years. In 2001, Dorothy moved to Calgary to be with her daughter and son-in-law. She resided for two years at the Lodge at Valley Ridge, and then for two more years at the Seniors Residence at the Colonel Belcher. Most recently, Dorothy was cared for at the Highlander Unit of the Care West Colonel Belcher Care Centre. Dorothy had many interests including her cake decorating profession, baking and cooking, sewing and handiwork, gardening, bowling, and square dancing. She also greatly enjoyed the company of friends and neighbours. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Lynne Herzog and treasured son-in-law, Dean Sinnott, of Calgary, Alberta and her dear sister-in-law, Margaret Bosenbury of Hemet, California. She was considered a second mom to Marilyn “Nuisance” Kraft, of Victoria, B.C. Dorothy was predeceased in 1985 by her husband of 42 years, John Frank Herzog; by her parents, Albert James and Mary Stirling Willis; by her mother and father-in-law, Anna (nee Kräuchi) and John (Johann) Herzog; by her niece and friend, Marion Funk and by sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Ernie Studer, Mary and John Dupre, Molly and Cliff MacDowell, and Mable and Wilbert Stephens.
