Edward Tovell

Obituary of Edward Tovell

Edward Roy Tovell passed away suddenly at his home Sunday, December 3, 2006 at the age of 87. Ed was a gentle caring person, loved by all who knew him. All those whose lives he has touched over the years will miss him dearly. Ed had a very active career in the oil industry starting back in 1942 when he joined Dowell in Turner Valley. He then spent over 20 years with Dome Petroleum managing their field operations, including the first exploration well drilled in the high Arctic in 1961. From Dome he went on to build and manage several oilfield service firms and in 1991 he decided golfing was more important than working and retired from the industry. In 1999 his contribution to the Petroleum Industry was recognized with him becoming an honored member of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. Ed leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Rick Tovell and Donna Banks with their four children Jason, Kelsey, Hannah and Nathan; three step grandchildren Cheryl, Dori and Jody along with their eight children and by his daughter, Wendy Barrette and her two children, Karin and Michelle. Ed was predeceased by his wife of over 54 years, Mary Josephine Tovell, who passed away in 2004 and by his step daughter, Donna Boucher, who passed away in 1990. His love of golf was well known as was his ability to beat his age on a round if there was a small wager involved. It is fitting that his farewell be held at one of his favorite places, the Earl Grey Golf Club. Please join his family and friends on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Earl Grey Golf Club (6540 – 20th Street S.W. Telephone: 249-5548) to remember Ed, celebrate his life and to share with him a final farewell toast. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
