Obituary of Artur Bachmann

Artur Bachmann of Calgary, beloved husband of Edith Bachmann of Calgary passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 after a long illness at the age of 78 years. He was born in Fischenthal, Switzerland on March 13, 1928 and grew up in Neftenbach Kt. Zch. As a steel fabricator he worked in the shipyard in Lucerne, building the ship ‘Rigi’ and lived nearby in Kastanienbaum with his young bride. In April 1957 he immigrated to Canada with his young family and settled in Halifax, NS and was employed in the Halifax Shipyards. After a few years he and his family traveled west and decided to make Calgary their home. Artur was employed at Maloney SteelCraft for thirty-four years. He was an active outdoorsman, with a passion for hunting, fishing and hiking. Before his illness his wife and he were avid hikers and cross-country skiers and had a very social life. He was also very active in the local Swiss community and was a founding member of the Jodlerklub Heimattreu. He was a fine musician with the guitar and performed with his wife, who played the Swiss accordion, at many Swiss functions. After retirement he concentrated on his hobby of ornamental ironworks and enjoyed going to the mountains particularly the Kananaskis area. He will be greatly missed by his wife Edith; daughter Yvonne (Edmund); sons, Guido (Maryam) and Arthur (Sherry); as well as his Grandchildren, Stefanie, Pierce, Arman and Arissa.
