Obituary of Ethel Rose Adams

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Ethel Rose Adams on Thursday November 23, 2006. Ethel was born on November 11, 1913, in Minburn, Alberta, and lived her early life in Edmonton. She married Jerry Adams after the war and when Jerry rejoined the Canadian Army in 1950 the family moved to Calgary from 1953 to 1958. Next came a wonderful posting to England from 1958 to 1961, after which the family returned to Calgary. Ethel led a full life raising her children and being the wife of an army officer. At fifty-seven she started work with Central Mortgage and Housing and loved the new found independence and confidence it gave her. After retirement at sixty-five, Ethel enjoyed weekly bridge games with the Heritage Seniors at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Calgary Nu-Grads Club. She also contributed time and talent to her church and many charities and kept us guessing about the part of the world she would visit next. Ethel spent many hours knitting. Slippers were her specialty. For the last six years she donated ten pairs of slippers each month to Ronald McDonald House. Special heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Carewest Sarcee, Unit 2 for their kindness and compassion to our wife and mother in her final days. Ethel is survived by her husband Gerald Adams; daughter Judith (Peter) Waldron; and son Don (Wendy) Adams. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.), on Saturday December 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Ronald McDonald House Calgary, 1921 – 28 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 2H1 Telephone: (403) 240-3000, www.rmhcalgary.org. or to the Mustard Seed Street Ministry, 102 – 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0X5 Telephone: (403) 269-1319, www.theseed.ca, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
