Obituary of Anne Cecilia Poohkay

Anne Cecilia Poohkay, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother G.G., of Calgary passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Anne was born on January 25, 1915 in Shalka, AB. She attended a one-room school and later Normal School in Camrose, AB where she received her teaching certificate. Her long teaching career began in a small school in Willow Trail, AB. Anne married John Poohkay in 1939. Her beloved daughter, Donna, was born in 1940 and the family soon moved to Edmonton, AB. Anne taught elementary school for thirty years with the Edmonton Public School Board. While teaching, she completed her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alberta in 1972. Upon retirement in 1980, Anne moved to Calgary to be closer to her family. She was a gifted artist and passed on her love of art to her family. She will be best remembered for her generosity, caring nature and wit. Anne is survived by her son-in-law Bob Heim; granddaughter Tracy (Bob McDonald) and grandson Jeff (Rhonda) Heim, all of Calgary; as well as five great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Graham, Zoe, Breanna and Lauryn. She is also survived by her brother Edward and sister-in-law Emily Shalka of Fort Kent, AB. Anne was predeceased by her husband John in 1966 and her daughter Donna in January, 2006.
