Obituary of Cecil Zenas Monaghan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and friend Cec, on Wednesday November 22, 2006, after a brief stay in hospital. Cec was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Ann; his son Martin; and two beautiful baby daughters. Lucky enough to have shared in his life are his son Doug (Leigh) of Seattle; his daughter Noreen (Bruce) Meyer of Calgary; granddaughters Jacquie (Grant) Stefanowski and Lisa who knows Grampa will be with her at her upcoming wedding to Noal. Cec was one of a graduating class of twelve at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Engineering in 1939. He then began his career in the City of Edmonton in the Electric Light Department. When Cec retired in 1975 he held the top position in the City – General Manager of Edmonton Water and Sanitation. A few years after Ann passed in 1995, Cec moved to Calgary to be close to family. This became a wonderful time as he made many friends at the Manor Village and Sunday dinners at Grampas became a tradition. In February of this year Cec celebrated turning ninety at a birthday party with his many, many friends. A few days ago Cec enjoyed a martini surrounded by family, today we celebrate his reunion with those passed. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (4718 Worcester Drive S.W.) on Tuesday November 28, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Julian Studden, Presider.
