Jo-Anne Dyment

Obituary of Jo-Anne Dyment

Jo-Anne Dyment, beloved wife of Alan Dyment of Calgary, died on Friday, November 24, 2006 after a long illness, with her loving family by her side at the age of 58 years. Jo-Anne was born Helen Jo-Anne Yates in Port Alberni, BC, on July 28, 1948. She married Alan in Toronto on January 20, 1973, and moved to Calgary later that year. Jo-Anne worked in nursing until Geoffrey was born in 1974. After Erin’s birth in 1977, Jo-Anne worked at Galleria Arts and Crafts and at Heritage Park. Her crafts continue to be sold at Galleria, and her original knitting patterns, Ewe and Me Yarncrafts, continue to be sold in knitting stores across Canada. As an accomplished knitter, Jo-Anne passed her love of her craft on to hundreds of others through her teaching and designs. She also worked for many years at Gina Brown’s and was an active member of knitting and fibre craft guilds. She was very involved in community life, being past president of the Westgate Community Association, a Beaver leader and school volunteer. She also started several charity knitting projects which continue today. After Alan’s retirement in 2000, Jo-Anne and Alan traveled widely until cancer forced so many changes in Jo-Anne’s life. She was determined to be seen as a person, not as a patient, and so continued as many of her activities as possible in her final months. Jo-Anne will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as someone who loved her life, living it without regrets. We will miss her dearly. Jo-Anne is survived by her loving husband Alan; her son and daughter-in-law Geoffrey and Trina; her daughter and son-in-law Erin and Rob; her mother Violet Yates; as well as her sisters, Laura and Alice. She was predeceased by her father Walter Yates. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at Westgate Community Hall, 4943 – 8 Avenue S.W. from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Anyone who knows Jo-Anne is invited to attend and to bring their memories (and knitting). Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
