Obituary of Adelaide Carloni

Adelaide Carloni of Calgary passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, November 20, 2006 at the age of 101 years. Born on January 19, 1905 just outside of Antrodoco, Rocco de Corno Italy, in the Province of Rieti. Adelaide was one of eleven children. With her spirit of adventure she left Italy at the age of seventeen to travel to Canada and marry a man she had never met. Ten days after arriving in Calgary she married Luca Carloni at St. Mary’s Cathedral. They resided in Nordegg for a short time, returning to Calgary’s Bridgland-Riverside Community to raise their family along with Luca’s orphaned nephews; Ringo, Leo and Benny Fabbi. She supported Luca’s many business endeavors over their lifetime. Adelaide was a lifetime supporter of the Italian Club and CWL. Adelaide took pride in her family, health and longevity. Adelaide is survived by her four children and their spouses, Lydia (Taverna), Nina (Valerio), Anna (Bercan) and Lawrence; seventeen grandchildren; as well as by twenty-one great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters and their spouses, Yola (Corradetti), Gena (Serani), both of Calgary and Alma of Italy; brother Quinto Cardellini of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in both Calgary and Italy. Adelaide was predeceased by her husband Luca Carloni; his orphaned nephews, Ringo, Leo, and Benny Fabbi; two grandchildren as well as several brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
