Obituary of Nicol McIntosh

Nicol McIntosh passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the Chinook Hospice at the age of 96 years. Nicol was born February 21, 1910 at Cotton of Brighty, Parish of Murroes, Forfar County, Scotland. He came to Canada in 1919 with his parents and sister Lottie, settling in Medicine Hat, AB. Sister Betty and brother Jack completed the family. In 1925 he joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Medicine Hat. His career took him to postings all over Alberta plus Yellowknife, notably Lethbridge in 1949 (where he met and married Della) Beaverlodge in 1953 (where Janet was born) and then for the last time to Calgary in 1955. He spent a brief year working a farm in Saskatchewan from 1928 to 1929. Otherwise, his career was with “The Bank”. Nicol enlisted in the Armed Forces at Grande Prairie on June 23, 1940 and was discharged in Calgary on October 25, 1945. He started as a sapper with the 2nd Canadian Pioneer Battalion of the Royal Canadian Engineers, serving overseas in World War II and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Nicol retired from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in 1972 and spent his retirement years relaxing in his yard and taking annual motor trips with Della, usually to the US. In 2004 at the age of 94, Nicol moved into the Colonel Belcher Veterans Facility, where he stayed until October 2006. The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Colonel Belcher for their kindness during his time there. Nicol is survived by his wife, Della; his daughter Janet and her husband Steve Luchkow of Peace River, AB; granddaughter Ellen of Vancouver, BC; several nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his sisters Betty Bell (1981) and Lottie Jolliffe (2002), brother Jack McIntosh (2004) as well as his parents George and Jessie McIntosh. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
