Obituary of Elena Rutkunas

Elena Rutkunas of Calgary passed away at the Foothills Hospital with family at her side on Monday, November 20, 2006 at the age of 86 years. Elena was born April 5, 1920, near Vilnius, Lithuania where she lived, worked and married; immigrating to London, Ontario in l948 and moving to Calgary, AB in l964. Elena loved homemaking, gardening and traveling. In her younger days, she was involved in Lithuanian Community activities in Ontario. Elena is survived, and lovingly remembered, by her daughter and son-in-law Rita and Walter and grandsons Robert and Andrew Dabisza of Calgary and by her daughter, Dr. Zita Rutkunas and grandchildren Andrew and Gemma Macfarlane of West Vancouver, B.C.; by her son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Linda and grandchildren Michelle, Craig and Brian Rutkunas, of Calgary; Elena was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in l976; her parents Zofija and Ludas; brothers Vladas and Joseph; sister, Jone; and son-in-law Hamish. Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Friday, November 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Krystain Golisz SDS, Presider. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Section, Queen’s Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Emergency and Unit 46 staff at Foothills Hospital for their kindness and care. The family would especially like to thank all the staff at Bow View Manor for making Grandma’s last home in Calgary a kind, comfortable and very caring place. You’ve climbed the hill Grandma, Rest in Peace.
