Obituary of Adeline Wunder

Adeline Wunder (nee Riethmueller) passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Born April 4, 1922 in Fürstenfeld, Romania, Adeline’s years as a care-free, hard-working farmer’s daughter were cut short by WWII. After migrating across war-torn Europe, she and her family came to Canada in 1948. When they settled in Calgary, Adeline became the assistant cook at the historic downtown diner, The Wave. She continued there until her marriage in 1955. Adeline had a kind generous nature. She was also a fabulous cook and great storyteller. Over the years, the cozy bungalow in Killarney welcomed family and friends alike and her homemade bread and dill pickles became family legends. Adeline will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Reinhart and by her sisters Alide Braun of Chilliwack, BC, Lilly Krueger and Lore Hewson of Calgary; as well as nine nieces and nephews and nineteen great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Willi on December 3, 2002 The last year of Adeline’s life was spent at Extendicare Hillcrest and the family would like to thank the caring third floor staff. Thanks also to the gentle and respectful nursing staff on Unit 46 at the Foothills Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, November 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
