Obituary of Gordon Gimbel

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Gimbel on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Gordon was born on a farm east of Beiseker, AB and was employed with Crown Lumber and was later transferred to Black Diamond, AB in the Turner Valley Oil Patch. As a young man he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served until the end of WWII. Following the war he spent a number of years in the automotive and farm equipment business at Morrin, AB and Nanton, AB. He then joined the United Farmers of Alberta as auditor and territorial manager in Red Deer, AB, retiring in 1984. Gordon spent many happy years volunteering with the Red Deer Westerner Exposition. He took great pride in building and riding on their floats for parades. Gordon was active in a number of organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion and the Elk’s Club. He joined the Masonic Order in 1949 and was Master of the Red Deer Beacon Lodge and Grand District Superintendent of the Royal Arch Masons. Gordon also belonged to the Red Deer Shrine Club and the Calgary Al Azhar Shrine. He loved to go fishing and enjoyed a game of golf and curling. His love of music brought him many happy years – strumming a mean banjo. Gordon will be dearly missed by his wife, Jessie with whom he spent the last sixty-seven years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Murray (Veronica) and Brian (Dolores); five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Bradley, Blair, Troy and Shelley; and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mildred of High River, AB and Lenora (Augie) of Penticton, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his sister Viola and brother Roland. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
