Obituary of Charles Robert Darwent

Charles Robert Darwent, born May 12, 1936 in Portsmouth, England, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the age of 70 years. An avid traveller with an adventurous spirit, Charles left England and home at the tender age of 19, joining the British Army and serving a tour in Malaysia. He returned to England and subsequently left for Trinidad with his young wife and children in 1965. He immigrated to Canada in 1969, and pursued various careers before continuing his law studies and becoming a well respected lawyer in the Calgary area. He retired from law in 2001, and passionately developed The METTA Foundation to assist HIV/AIDS orphans in Bangkok, Thailand. Charles, better known as Charlie Weed or Bob, will be lovingly missed by friends and family in England, Canada and Thailand; the places he lived and considered home. He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife, Roxanne; siblings, John, Francis, and Elizabeth of England; his children and their spouses, Jimmy and Sue, Alison, Natalie and Ross, Robert, Tacita and Rebecca; grandchildren, Hanna, Christopher, Peter, Alexandra, Katrina and Daniel; and nephew, Darren. He is also missed by in-laws, Eric, Angela, Jacqueline and Candace.
