Obituary of John Leonard Hackman

John Hackman of Airdrie, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the age of 82 years. John was born on May 2, 1924 in Calgary. He served with the RAF 158th Squadron during WWII. He was shot down on a bombing mission over Germany and was captured where he remained a POW for the balance of the War. John returned to Calgary after being Liberated and worked for the City of Calgary for a short time before reenlisting in the RCAF. He then served for another twenty-five years. John retired from the Airforce in 1968, and then began to work for Correctional Services in Brampton, ON. Upon full retirement he returned to the West and settled in Airdrie. John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Nida Hackman of Airdrie; his grandchildren, Tanya Hilts (Rod) of Barrie, ON, Mika Norell (Erin), Lenny Hackman, and Maryellen Hackman all of Airdrie; as well as three great-grandchildren, Isys Norell, Elizabeth Hilts and Freyja Norell.
