Obituary of Katherine Metz

Katherine (Vaughn) Metz of Calgary passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Vaughn was born on March 28, 1925 in Campbellton, NB where she grew up. She met her husband-to-be, Arthur (Art) Hamilton Metz in 1945 at Germain Street Baptist Church. They married on September 14, 1946. After completing a bookkeeping course she worked as a bookkeeper for K.C. Irving Oil. After the kids were born, Vaughn stayed home to care for the three children. Art’s career moved the family to Winnipeg, MB, Calgary, and Vancouver, BC. Vaughn and Art retired to Calgary where they would spend their remaining years. Vaughn’s foremost passion was her faith. She used her gifts and talents in many facets of the women’s ministry and in teaching. Vaughn’s memory will be cherished by her three children and their spouses, Jim and Rosemarie Metz of Meadow Lake, SK, Kathy and Hendrik Dethmers of Calgary, Dave Metz and Sherrie Botten of Okotoks, AB; fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Dwayne, Ryan and Kathleen, Tim and Clare, Holly and Cory, Philip and Lexi, Joanna, Arthur, Angela and Carlos, Heather, Carla, Allan, Travis, Candace, Desiree, and Lucas. She will also be remembered by her four great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Shanna, Jonathan, and Caleb; and faithful companion Buttons. She was predeceased by her husband Art in 2005; parents John and Catherine MacDavid; sisters, Margaret, Lena and Muriel; and brothers, Win, Jim, Stirling, and Ralph.
