Obituary of Michael Healey

Michael Joseph Healy passed away suddenly at home on October 23, 2006. For the past three years he had battled cancer with a dogged determination to survive. In 2000, Mike retired from teaching after thirty-two years. Most of those years were spent at Bishop Carroll High School where he taught Math, Chemistry and Physics. Mike had a passion for learning and pursued numerous hobbies including reading, electronics, computers, gardening, photo developing, wine making, playing the guitar, fishing and camping. In 1967 he installed the University Radio Station in the then new MacEwan Hall. Throughout his years at University he was the recipient of three awards for his “contribution to student life on Campus.” Everyone who knew Mike/Joe appreciated his incredibly sharp sense of humor. He could turn out a wicked limerick or a great poem on demand and did so for many special situations. Many of his former students will remember his lecture on Atomic Theory written and presented entirely in iambic pentameter. He is sorely missed by his wife Sel, daughters Christina and Joanne McKee (Cameron), brothers Pat (Carol) and Paul (Deirdre), and sister Irene McCorkindale (Jim). He was predeceased by his parents Helen (1973) and Mike (1976) and by brother John (2006). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
