Obituary of Antimo Altieri

Piu Scurro della mezza notte non poi venire Antimo Altieri passed away on Tuesday evening October 24, 2006 at the age of 89. Antimo was born and educated in Sessano P. Campobasso, Italia. He was conscripted into the Italian army at the age of 21, later serving in World War II. He served for Il Re in the patria, Artiglieria Armata. He married Antonietta Valerio Oct. 5, 1941. In 1952, he immigrated to Canada with twelve friends seeking a better life for his family. He soon began working for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Cowley Alberta. He was later joined by his wife and two daughters. Antimo and Antonietta lived in Lethbridge for 37 years before moving to Calgary in 1996, residing here until his passing. For many years he represented his Local as the chairman for his union. He served on the executive committee of the Lethbridge Italian Club. Until recently he took pleasure in golfing, gardening, making wine, sausages, and cheese. Antimo’s gregarious nature led him to play a part in the film, The National Dream, where he met Pierre Burton. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Antonietta, his daughters Costanza Altieri of Vancouver and Flora Altieri (Tony Bromhead) of Calgary, granddaughter Ramona Lisell of Red Deer, his sister and brother-in-law, Antonietta and Michele Evangelista, and numerous nephews and nieces in Calgary, Italy, Switzerland and South America.
