Obituary of Helen Jean Green

Helen Jean Green of Calgary died on October 22, 2006, at the age of 91 years. Helen was born in Fort William, ON, in 1915, where her father was a grain elevator superintendent, and moved to Prescott with her family in 1930. She graduated from Queen’s University in 1937 and worked in Toronto, Ottawa, and Washington DC until she married Rick on July 17, 1950. Rick and Helen moved to Calgary where she maintained a keen interest in peace and environmental movements, parks development and the Unitarian Church. Mom had many friends who remember her as a grand woman and a gentle lady. We are grateful for the kind and compassionate care Helen received at Unit 51 of the Peter Lougheed Centre during the last four weeks of her life. Helen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Ulric (Rick) Green; children, Rod and Joanne; sister Marion Hare of Brockville ON; brother-in-law Levert Johnson of Wetaskiwin, AB; grandchildren, Erin and Julie; great-grandson Marcel; several nieces and nephews; and her many special friends. She was predeceased by her brother Leslie in 1984; a brother in infancy; and her daughter Shelagh in 1975. A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held at The Unitarian Church of Calgary (1703 – 1st Street N.W.) on Friday October 27, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. At Helen’s request, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Endowment Fund of the Unitarian Church, Energy Probe of Toronto or an environmental organization of your choice.
