Obituary of Opal Johnson

Opal Emilia Johnson, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Southwood Intercare, nine days short of her ninety-forth birthday. Opal was born in Magrath, AB, October, 29, 1912 and lived there until her marriage to Fred Byron in 1930, moving to Turner Valley and later to Lethbridge. Opal’s marriage to Ralph Johnson took them to Whitehorse and eventually back to Alberta, where Ralph’s job as a pipefitter saw them moving all over the province. As retirement neared Opal and Ralph settled in Medicine Hat. In 1985 they moved to Calgary due to Ralph’s health. Our mother will always be remembered as a feisty individual who valued her privacy and her independence. Opal accepted her increasing blindness with dignity, never complaining or asking for help. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4v7 Opal is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ronald Ross, Arlene and Mike Derbowka, and Dorene MacKenzie; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Rena Hillmer; a sister Glenora; two brothers Orville and Lester, and two husbands Fred Byron and Ralph Johnson. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. ) on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
