Obituary of Felix A. Leew

Felix A. Leew of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Felix was predeceased by his wife Evelyn in 1988; and his siblings, Arnold Leew and Ellen Berrington. He is survived by two daughters, Felicia (Bill) Melnyk and Catherine King. Felix will be remembered by six grandchildren, Chris (John) Dane of Calgary, Stephanie Haggarty of London, ON, Talie Melnyk of New York, NY, Malcolm Wynne of Lomond, AB, Lorna (David) Chmilar of Calgary, and Graham (Jenette) Wynne of Las Vegas, NV; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Alex (Eva) Leew and Bob (Margaret) Leew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Felix served overseas during WWII and was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1946 at which time he returned to Calgary. He took up residence with his family in the community of Winston Heights and became one of the founding community association members and first President. Felix was presented with a Lifetime Honorary Membership for his long time contributions to the community. He enjoyed many years within the amateur sports and political life of Calgary. Past president of the CCRA and Calgary Liberal Association, he particularly enjoyed his years of curling and was a past president of the Calgary Curling Club. His love of fishing led to many stories of the “big” ones. Felix spent wonderful vacations in Hawaii as well as taking cruises. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
