Obituary of Letha Mae Seaman

Letha Mae Seaman passed away peacefully at the Wentworth Manor on Monday October 9, 2006, at the age of 107 years. Letha was born on April 8, 1899, in Unadilla, Nebraska, then moved with her family to Truax, Saskatchewan at age thirteen. She was living in the Avonlea area when she met her husband to be, an American who came to assist in the harvest while Canada was fighting in the first world war. When the Americans entered the war, he returned and joined the U.S. expeditionary force. After the war he spent a period in the army of occupation in Germany. In January 1920, he returned to Canada and married Letha Mae. They lived in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, where their four children were born. In 1944 they moved to Saskatoon and then after a short period in New Westminster, moved to Calgary in 1949. During WWII Letha took it upon herself to knit and sew hundreds of articles for the armed services. She was an avid housekeeper, and to the envy of her neighbours, was a meticulous gardener. She resided at Wentworth Manor for the past ten years. Letha is survived by sons Daryl K, Byron J and Donald R. Seaman (Eleanor); as well as thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-nine years, Byron Luther Seaman in 1979; four sisters; one brother; and her daughter Dorothy Hamilton in 2006.
