Obituary of Anne Chuchla

Anne Chuchla, of Calgary, passed peacefully away at the Atlantic House, Care West Colonel Belcher following a prolonged illness on Saturday October 14, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Anne was born in Coleman, Alberta, a proud descendent of one of Alberta?s first Polish pioneers. Her life was a constant tribute and dedication to the care and welfare of others – including not only her family, but also countless survivors of the Great Depression and the Second World War, in particular Polish veterans, survivors of the labour camps, and concentration camps. A mother and auntie to all, she was resplendent in her generosity to aid others often with sacrifice. Her culinary skills as a chef for the Hudson Bay Company in the 1950?s enabled her to cater to and entertain national and international figures in the Polish community. Side by side with her beloved husband, Walter, Anne contributed diligently to the community during the war years and the years to follow. She was very much involved with the Polish Alliance of Calgary, St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Parish, St. Joseph?s CWL, and the Canadian Citizenship Council. Anne was a fun-loving and inspiring woman who pulled no punches; you always knew where you stood with her. She will be lovingly remembered by her grateful daughter Claire Chuchla who will miss her best friend and travel-mate. She also leaves a brother Ted Pieronek (Lorraine) of Irricana; two sisters and brother-in-law, Frances and George McArthur of Palmerston, ON, and Florence Pieronek of Vancouver, BC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved teammate and partner Walter in 1988.
